GYM MEMBERSHIP NOT NECESSARY!
Eli and Amy, Residents of Roseville, Minnesota
Roseville was a no-brainer for Eli and his wife Amy when they were looking for a house. A significant requirement was that their home be within biking range of their jobs – Eli at the University of Minnesota as an Extension forester and Amy at the DNR in forestry education. This along with public parks, trails and good daycare options added up to "Roseville" for them.
As avid proponents of staying inside their footprint, Eli and Amy were able to find a home in Roseville that they could renovate using sustainable, local building materials. There was the added bonus of a garden where they could grow vegetables and teach their daughters to feel connected with the food they eat. Their home's backyard is one-third prairie, and they maximize native plantings to reduce grass maintenance, watering and chemicals.
They both enjoy being active and outside so they sought – and found in Roseville – a lifestyle and location for their family which allows them to consume less "stuff" and have less impact on the environment. Of the many benefits they enjoy, one in particular is the increased connectedness they feel to their community by biking, running or walking to work, the hardware store, daycare, etc. Plus the health benefits are great and they don't need a gym membership – another cost savings!
Although committed bicyclists, Eli and Amy do own a car – a Prius – for those 20°F days when Amy's limited for biking to work!
