What's New with the Comprehensive Plan Update

Walkabouts

A "walkabout" is a community engagement activity that happens in a specific part of the community to learn from people who regularly find themselves in that area, because they live or work nearby, because they travel through on foot, bicycle, or transit, or because they take advantage of recreational, cultural, or commercial opportunities in the area. Feedback will be solicited on a range of issues beyond land use, like positive or negative neighborhood identity, connectivity or barriers to other parts of the community, as well as places that people either actively avoid or that people go out of their way to be. Despite the name, "walking" is not an essential part of this. If mobility is a concern, please come and share your thoughts with us in the parking lot. Click the links below for maps showing the starting location and planned walking routes.

Lexington Park: Take a walk with us through the neighborhoods between Lexington and Hamline along County B
Thursday, June 22, at 6:00 pm

Marion Street Playlot: Take a walk with us around the Rice and Larpenteur area
Tuesday, June 27, at 6:00 pm
(Meet us at 5:00 pm for popsicles and to imagine the future of the playlot!)

Please check back here on the days of the events in case a walkabout has to be cancelled due to weather.

Online Survey

Please consider participating in a short online survey that will prompt you for answers to questions about what Roseville is doing well, what it could be doing better, and what you'd like to see in the near (and more distant) future. Click here to complete the survey.

Meeting In A Box

Meeting in a box is a kit (though not literally a box) of simple materials that you can borrow to facilitate your own community engagement mini-event. There's a large map to draw on, markers and pens, sticker-dots and post-its, and a facilitation guide that gives you, the host, some suggestions for how to get people talking and sharing their ideas. Check out a kit and engage your neighbors, book club, faith community, fantasy sports league, scouting troop, or whomever else you can think of. If you know you want one, or if you want to know more about one, click here to email us about the meeting in a box.

What is a Comprehensive Plan?

A comprehensive plan is a tool for guiding the growth, redevelopment, and overall improvement of a city. For example, Roseville’s current 2030 Comprehensive Plan identifies not only a land-use plan, but also develops a broader framework to help shape the character of the community and enhance the quality of life.

What role does the Comp Plan have in shaping Roseville's future?

The current plan aims to do the following:

  • Create and sustain the elements that define Roseville’s character, heritage, and identity.
  • Influence the economic health of the community by attracting new investment and guiding it to proper locations and by protecting existing investments through the promotion of strong residential neighborhoods and business districts.
  • Shape the future of municipal government by identifying needed public improvements that facilitate and sustain development.

Why does the Comp Plan need to be updated?

Roseville has begun the process of reviewing the 2030 Comprehensive Plan and recalibrating it to ensure that it continues to reflect the community’s collective vision for its future and align with the Metropolitan Council’s plan for the region.
