Police Reserves

Reserve Duties
Roseville’s Police Reserve Unit was formed in the mid 1950s as a civil defense unit, then became a Police auxiliary unit in the 1960s. Roseville’s Police Reserve Unit has been known officially as a "Reserve Officer” unit since the mid 1970s. It is made up of men and women from all backgrounds who volunteer their time to supplement uniformed patrol operations of the police department. Throughout the unit's history, reserve officers have donated hundreds of thousands of hours to the citizens of Roseville.
Reserve Officer
Though not sworn police officers, some of their many duties include:
  • Patrolling city parks and other areas via squad car, bicycle, or ATV
  • Enforcing city codes
  • Handling a variety of non emergency calls for service
  • Transporting arrested parties under the direction of licensed officers
  • Providing traffic direction and crowd control at incident scenes or city events
  • Conducting property watch checks and proactive visits to problem areas
Training
Reserve officers receive extensive training prior to solo or paired patrol through a field training program. Additional training is provided during monthly meetings on the first Tuesday evening of each month. Some of the many training topics include first aid, use of force, traffic direction, and report writing. Uniforms and equipment are provided.

Volunteering

In addition to attending monthly meetings, reserves are asked to volunteer a minimum of 16 hours per month patrolling, working city events or assisting with other department or city functions. Scheduling is flexible as reserves may work any day of the week or time of the day.
